Window tinting is a great way to improve the comfort of your car/home and protect yourself from the sun. But did you know that there are different types of window tint? In this blog post, we will discuss the different types of window tint and what is the darkest legal tint in Texas.
Window tinting comes in three different types: dyed film, metallic film, and ceramic. Dyed film is the cheapest and least effective type of window tint. Metallic film is more expensive than dyed film, but it is more effective at blocking out the sun’s rays. Ceramic tint is the most expensive type of window tint, but it is the most effective at blocking out the Texas heat.
So, what is the darkest legal tint in Texas?
You are legally allowed to tint a full front windshield to a light transmittance of 70% or more. It’s almost clear ceramic window film that will block 99% harmful UV rays, 76%+ InfraRed heat rejection and 43% TSER(Total Solar Energy Rejected).
Sun strip(eyebrow) is allowed to be installed above the AS-1 line or 5 inches below the top of the windshield and must allow 25% VLT or more.
The front passenger and driver windows can be to a light transmittance of 25% or more.
Lastly, the rear windows can be tinted with any darkness of film 4% being the darkest film on the market.
There are a few exemptions to the window tint law in Texas. If you have a medical condition that requires you to have a darker tint, you can apply for a medical exemption. You will need to get a letter from your doctor stating that you need a darker tint.
Vehicles that are maintained by law enforcement agencies are exempt from tinting laws.
Commercial vehicles used to transport passengers for a fee on a regular basis.
If you are thinking about tinting your car windows, be sure to check the laws in your state. Window tinting is a great way to improve the comfort of your car and protect yourself from the sun. But be sure to follow the law!

Ceramic tint also blocks out 99% UV rays, which can damage your skin and the interior of the car.
Ceramic tint will help you reduce the cost of gas by lowering the AC usage and if you own an electric vehicle like Tesla, ceramic window film will help prolong the life of the battery!
